Dina Bdaiwi , AMFT

Hey~ My name is Dina Bdaiwi and I am a Dual Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor.

Before we begin our work together, I need to acknowledge my positionality. I identify as neurodivergent, mixed, of Mexican and Syrian heritages, Queer, 1.5 gen, and as a woman of color. I am also of light complexion, come from a privileged SES, and am cisgender, able-bodied, and straight-sized. I grew up Muslim and have extensive experience with religious marginalization.

I take an intersectional feminist approach to therapy, utilizing narrative, relational-cultural, Queer, and critical race theories. Acknowledging colonial mindsets and reorienting towards decolonizing thoughts and behaviors is my jam. The personal is political and I often discuss with clients how to balance social justice work and burnout through the practice of collective/community care.

Let’s def talk body, relationships with food, and relationships with yourself! I follow both a Health At Every Size (HAES) and harm reductionist approaches to body image concerns and disordered eating habits. I recognize that altering how you think of yourself and your body can be challenging, it takes time and practice to get to a place of body neutrality and self compassion.

I have come to understand the world through stories, including the messages one was taught about life, yourself, and how one makes sense of lived experiences. Every story starts somewhere, maybe it was a story from before you were even born that has been passed down from generation to generation, both painful (T/trauma) and powerful (Legacy). I

If you are curious about EMDR to support through T/trauma, def reach out and we can get you assessed to see if EMDR would be a good fit for you and your concerns. BTW, There is no "right" way to respond to T/trauma. You did the best you could with the tools you had and it is ok that those skills may no longer be helpful anymore. We can embrace what safety means now and try on new skills to support you when the T/trauma gets overwhelming.
