“Little” M P. Vila-Barrett, MACP-EXA-CPC

I am a Queer Latinix Indigenous licensed Therapist and Certified Professional Coach. I have been working with children and families since 1998. I began my work on the east coast but have been in the SF Bay Area since 2005 with my primary focus on supporting QBIPOC children, families, TAY and elders. Most of these roles have been in non-profit agencies or schools as a crisis clinician or consult.

Clinical Approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in harm reduction and trauma informed care, centering BIPOC cultural connections, destigmatizing labels and diagnoses with a decolonized framework focusing on the person/s seeking help as a co-collaborator or participant and not a “client”. I have a background in expressive arts therapies from CIIS and like to use tools such as; photography, nature, sports, art, music and culturally significant foods to encourage individual creativity as an instrument to healing.

Areas of Clinical Work

I have a strong linkage-partnership style and strive to help match the participant(s) with the resources they are seeking, collaborating as a team with other healers and clinicians they choose to work with. Most recently I have been collaborating with Bay Area resources and linking people of all ages to these supportive connections. Some areas include, TRA (Trans Racial Adoption), BIPOC outlets, ND(Neurodiversity-Learning disabilities/ Learning strengths-differences) resources, LGBTQ2SP community and more.

Modalities Available

I believe that decolonizing therapeutic work often starts with language and honoring one’s cultural needs first before western frameworks. I use BIPOC trauma informed practices, harm reductionist and strength-based modalities.
